Friends
shocked at loss of free-climbing pioneer,
San Francisco Chronicle,
Thursday, October 26, 2006 |
| |
We are deeply saddened to report that on
October 23, 2006, Todd Skinner was killed while descending
fixed ropes on the Leaning Tower in Yosemite. Details of
the accident are incomplete at this time, but it appears
that he and his partner Jim Hewitt were working on a free
route on the 1,200-foot monolith. Information on the accident
will follow as we receive it. Todd and Jim were rappelling
the route "Jesus Built My Hot Rod" and were several
hundred feet above the base when the accident occurred.
Apparently, Skinner went first and suddenly fell; his rappel
device and locking carabiner remained on the rope.
Todd lived in Lander, Wyoming and is survived by his wife
Amy, son Jake, and daughters Hannah and Sarah.
A Memorial Fund has been established for his wife and three
young children. To donate please send contributions to:

Climbing
Management Mountain:
A Checklist for Better Business Management |
 |
- By Erick Erickson, Published in Construction
Business Owner, October, 2005
A mountain is climbed step by- step, hold-by-hold, breath-by-breath,
all with a specific plan of action. A building is built
piece-by-piece, according to a detailed plan. A profitable
construction company is managed day-by day, with specific
end results clearly defined and implemented. Management
is a life-long commitment. It takes step-by-step, hold-by-hold,
personal and professional daily growth habits to ensure
successful people management. |

RETREAT!
How
to Make Taking a Step Back a Successful Step Forward |
 |
- From Event Solutions, November 2005 Issue
There was a time when retreats could have used a good PR
manager. In 2001, a dozen Burger King employees burned themselves
when attempting a fire walk as a team building exercise...
But today's retreats are of a much different variety than
those lavish holidays of yesteryear. They are leaner, stronger
and smarter; they require careful logistical and strategic
planning; and they speak the language of ROI. Yes, a new
breed of corporate retreat has arrived in town, and it's
not a golf vacation in Maui. Would it kick sand in the face
of the corporate retreat of old? Most assuredly. But that's
why we love it. To make sure your next retreat is up to
snuff—and delivers the business results your company
needs read on... |
