From, "Corporate Volunteering: Top 7 Requests & the Bad, Better and Best Responses." (12-25-09)

According to this article, most companies simply call a non-profit when they are looking for volunteer opportunities. But what is the non-profit? An expert is what service they offer, not a team building experience! If you want to both combine team building and a volunteer opportunity, it is important to seek the expertise of a company that understands this outcome and knows how to provide you exactly what you are looking to achieve!

"Non-profits tend to hear the same general requests for volunteer opportunities from companies again and again. Particularly lately, with the increased interest in volunteering, non-profits are beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed. There are basically 3 types of responses to the requests of companies: Bad, Better, and Best." - Fast Company

What is Bad: Having the non-profit say show-up, give us your people and your money and we'll find a way for you to help.

What is Better: Having some sort of, "Ok, we'll create an event for you." And they do, and it's fun. But there is little organization and no-way of processing the experience so it really Servers You!

What is Best: Investing in an Experience that provides Expertise in deliverying action-learning and facilitating meaning - transferance. So that your company both satisfy's the goal of contribution, and also receives the key take aways that will build a better company internally.

Denver University’s MBA RESEARCH PROVES BENEFIT TO "All in One"  CORPORATE VOLUNTEER RETREAT (TM) model

The New Generation Demands Corporate social responsibility;

The new economy demands business results! The perfect solution combines contribution, experience and return on involvementThe Corporate Volunteer Retreat (TM)

Over seventeen months, an Executive MBA Team led by MBA Student Janet Crouse has worked on various elements to prove viability of the business model of Matt Campana’s Corporate Motivation, Inc. (CMI). As a result, we have identified some ways to position, market, and show value to corporations for participating in such a program.

The research team met with several Denver metro area businesses to review the merits of the program. By far, the overwhelming response was that this is the type of program that they have been looking for of late. Some of the reasons given were: (1) the onslaught of the Millennial Generation into the workforce is demanding this type of corporate social responsibility program in order for them to accept employment within a corporation; (2) the combination of team-building or leadership training with a socially responsible program provides for more meaningful use of their budget; (3) the ‘Return on Involvement’ of the program is something that will be felt for a long time within the corporation, more so than a traditional stand-alone training session or a donation to a charity would provide; and (4) the program will improve the company’s corporate image.

Results

The positioning strategy for this service is centered on corporations that are looking for leadership training, team building, and a social responsibility program. The CMI program provides an ‘all in one package’ solution to meet those needs. The potential exists to develop partnerships with various service providers and nonprofit organizations that can each be selling the same program in which all partners will benefit. This customizable program also provides companies the ability to pull from different departmental budgets to meet the cost of the program without looking for additional funds to participate.

Demand for this type of program is growing and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. Based upon our research findings, responses and feedback from the market place, it is our recommendation that Matt Campana’s CMI program is sustainable and can provide for a significant profit model for the participants.

MAXIMIZING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUPPORTED VOLUNTEERISM

This finding supports many others revealed in the study, including the fact that 85 per cent of participating companies allow their employees to volunteer during the workday, and that nearly 60 per cent of executives feel that supporting volunteerism is part of being a good corporate citizen.
