TKI: Thomas Kilmann Conflict Resolution Mode

TKI     Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Inventory

This is a tool that we like to use with individuals and groups to help improve communication and create space for important conversations to happen. This tool helps you to distinguish between five distinct strategies for resolving conflict.  It uses a forced choice method that allows you to determine which conflict management strategy you tend to use most often and which ones you prefer to use less often.  An aha moment is in learning that to be effective in resolving conflict, you have to learn how to use all five strategies at the right time.  And you probably didn’t even know you had five strategies. (You do, and you use them all already.)

Five Modes for Handling Conflict

The theory behind this model asserts that we start with two basic considerations when we enter into a conflict.  These are our own levels of assertiveness and cooperativeness and the degree of assertiveness and cooperativeness displayed by the person or people with whom you have conflict.  by learning to improve self-awarness and awareness of others, you become equipped to get better results out of all of your interactiions with others, including those where conflict of interest is involved.

This is a self-scoring tool that we use in real time with our teams. That means simply that no advanced preparation or assessment time is needed on your part. It is a tool that you will really love and find tremendous value in using.  Ask about including it in your next GDI program.
